Accelepedia was an online encyclopedia and message board for Hot Wheels: World Race and Acceleracers. It was founded in 2005 by Brian Adams, John Gushue and Isabelle Gonthier. In July of 2018, the domain became defunct, but archives remain on the Internet Archive.

History[]

“For whatever reason, I hope you find this site useful and enjoyable!”
—Brian, April 16, 2005

In 2005, Brian Adams had become enthralled in Acceleracers and World Race through his children and after seeing a lack of community and information regarding it, he created the site.[1] The encyclopedia proved expansive, covering toyline releases, character biographies, and car information which amounted to almost 500 pages by 2017.[2]

The forums became a place to share fan fiction, chat about the series, and discuss the toyline. The board went from one moderator in 2007,[3] to four in 2008,[4] which is indicative of the site’s growth. Little archives remain of the actual threads. Some accounts of the forums regard it as a toxic place, as some fans quickly became restless for new Acceleracers content. The release of Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 was a tipping point for them, with its apparent disregard for Acceleracer’s continuity. Some members would excessively contact Mattel and various employees who worked on Acceleracers for information about a supposed sequel. This gave the community a bad reputation, especially to other Hot Wheels fandom circles.

In July of 2018, the site would no longer function due to the domain expiring.[5] As of April 9, 2021, the website has yet to come back online.
